MAIA Companies, founded by friends and business partners, Mary and Piia, is committed to increasing its investment and entrepreneurial acumen while teaching others how to grow their investment portfolio.
Their motto: Onward and Upward Together, guides both Mary and Piia's personal and professional lives. As lifelong learners, they seek to learn from every person they meet. Their investments include single family homes, multi-family properties, short term rentals, agriculture, cryptocurrency, gold/silver and stocks.

Who We Are
A Louisville, Kentucky native, Mary grew up in the West End (the best end) of the city. Like many Black Americans her community experienced the challenges of urban life in this country. Seeking a way to understand the socio-political history of this nation and contextualize the obvious differences between her neighborhood and other parts of the city, her path ultimately led to medicine, public health and health equity. Knowing one of the most tangible ways to influence healthy communities and increase generational wealth is to have a safe and stable place to live, Mary first sought to enter the real estate market by purchasing her first single family home as an investment property in 2015. She and Piia realized their overlapping interests and started Maia Companies in 2018 to collaborate on their shared vision of supporting and uplifting communities.
Piia T Hanson truly embodies Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s famous quote “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” Through her national work to improve quality and access to care, her local work purchasing and renovating investment properties to provide safe, affordable housing for families, and her international volunteer work providing medications and program support in rural communities, she is committed to helping others thrive. Her ‘Why’ is To Serve, which she fulfills in part, by providing homes for families through investing in buy-and-hold single family properties. A servant leader, avid learner, coach and mentor, Piia works everyday to ‘Create the Life She Wants to Live”.
